List of names of search committee of Bangladesh

This time the names of 11 people from Chittagong have come up in the proposal to form a new Election Commission (EC). Among the names that have come up are these 11 people including former government officials living in different places including Dhaka-Chittagong.

Here are the names of various people including former army officers, academics, magistrates, lawyers, journalists. Again, some people were shocked to see the name of how their name came up in the list of names of the EC. All in all, there is a lot of discussion and criticism about these names in different places including Chittagong.

It is learned that the search committee has received proposals for the names of 322 people including political parties and individuals in the selection of qualified persons for the formation of the new Election Commission. The names were published on the website of the cabinet department on Monday. It was not immediately clear who suggested the names.

The names of those who have been nominated for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioner are at least 12 children from Chittagong and working here. Among them are former army chief Major General (retd) Harunur Rashid, former secretary of the Liberation War Ministry Aparup Chowdhury, a magistrate discussed during the anti-corruption campaign in 2006 and later retired as additional secretary Rokon-ud-Daulah, the current deputy attorney general Advocate Md. Abul Hashem (former District PP of Chittagong), former Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof. Abdul Mannan, Principal of Sobhania Kamil Madrasa in Chittagong Allama Qazi Moinuddin Ashrafi and Fashion Designer BB Russell.

Retired Dr. is one of the three professors of Chittagong University. Jyoti Prakash Dutt, local government expert. Tofail Ahmed and the Department of Public Administration. Khasrul Alam Quddusi. In addition, the former vice chancellor of the University of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science.

The names of Nitish Chandra Debnath and Saiful Islam Siddiqui, editor of the daily Purbatara published from Chittagong. Claiming that no name was given anywhere, Saiful Islam Siddiqui, editor of the daily Purbatara published from Chittagong, told Bangladesh Pratidin, "Extensive discussions are going on about the formation of the Election Commission." Many qualified people will come in charge.

But in the meantime I was shocked to see my name on the list. Because I didn't give a name. I don't even know how my name came to be. But I think legal action should be taken in this regard.

It is learned that the term of the current Election Commission has ended on February 14. This is the first EC to be formed according to the law after independence. For this, on 26 January, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Appointment Bill, 2022 was passed in the Parliament. A six-member search committee was formed on February 5 with Justice Obaidul Hasan as the chairman of the Appellate Division to select the person eligible to form the EC as per the law.

The search committee has been given 15 working days to recommend names. As such, they have time till February 24. Apart from proposals from political parties, professional organizations and individuals, the search committee itself will be able to select qualified persons to form the Election Commission (EC).

The search committee will select 10 people from all the names and send them to the President. From there, the President will appoint the Chief Election Commissioner and four Election Commissioners.
